The COVID pandemic was a difficult time for many. But despite the numerous hardships that permeated throughout society, people from all walks of life made the most out of the situation. They began to rediscover the things of true value: friends, family, a hot cup of coffee, a walk in nature, the setting sun amongst the pines. It was as if the world came to a screeching halt, even if just for a moment, mankind’s appreciation for life slowly being reawakened. During this time, individuality flourished in the most subtle of ways. The masks people wore became an expression of themselves. The following photo essay focuses on this nuance. I believe that the exploration of different mask styles, while seemingly innocuous, holds significant importance. It illustrates humanity’s resilience, and the ability of creativity and individuality to remain, even in times of great chaos and uncertainty. Enjoy!
