San Miguel de Allende - The City that Never Sleeps

In the rolling hills of Mexico sits the beautiful and picturesque city of San Miguel de Allende. This sprawling cultural city is quite a sight to behold. Numerous cobblestone streets weave through colorful adobe architecture. Enticing scents fill the air as traffic fills narrow corridors. The main cathedral rises majestically up above the city, a striking spire in the clear blue sky. Taxis speedily fly by, playing loud music. Young kids run around as the leaves rustle gently in the breeze. At night echoes of laughter emanate from restaurants and bars. The mariachi bands fill the square. They surround young lovers, their voices singing in unison as they sway back and forth. Families sit on benches underneath perfectly manicured trees. They chat loudly amongst each other, sharing gazes of amusement interspersed with interest. The night moves slowly, and so do the people. The bells periodically ring, reverberating throughout the bustling city streets. San Miguel de Allende is truly a city that never sleeps.

Numerous aspects of San Miguel de Allende make it a wonderful place to visit. These characteristics are one of the main reasons it has quite a large expatriate population. From the busy cultural market to the lively main square, there is always something to see in San Miguel. Countless cathedrals and churches are interspersed throughout the city. A hot springs is within very close proximity. Of course, there is also never a shortage of delicious Mexican cuisine. A wide range of other ethnic restaurants also exist, offering everything from Thai food to Lebanese. The city park is filled with serenity and quiet, while the courtyards are noisy and fun. There is something for everybody in this magnificent cultural city.

San Miguel de Allende is absolutely stunning in every respect. It is difficult to put into words how beautiful this city is. The buildings are vibrant and brightly colored. Every street is made of worn cobblestone, intricately laid in varying designs. Thick vines often protrude from the stone and adobe walls. Multiple flower pots adorn upper terraces. Large carved wooden doors lead into broad courtyards. The flowers are utterly radiant when in full bloom. Their colors complement the rough stone walls and classy courtyards. In the city garden they rise out of old ornate statues, made of crumbling marble of a bygone era. At night bright street lamps warmly light up smooth worn stones. The largest cathedral, Parroquia de San Miguel Arcángel, towers silently up above. Its intricate arches are lit up by bright spotlights. Beauty varies throughout the city, but each unique part is quite magnificent in its own sense.

The culture of San Miguel de Allende is truly vibrant. Whether it be food or experiences, the culture is always alive and quite varying. Street food vendors offer delicious homemade tacos and burritos. The scents from these stalls drift among the streets, mixing with the wide array of sounds and music. During the day the Mexican market, or Mercado, is definitely one of the most interesting cultural experiences. Food stalls of all types sit closely cramped next to small restaurants. The market sprawls over quite a large area. Narrow walkways connect and weave throughout it, filled with local men and women. Colorful stalls of varying fruit and vegetables sit next to burrito shops. One is instantly assaulted by truly a differing range of scents upon entering the Mercado. The main square at night is also a unique cultural experience. The locals gather round as Mariachi bands fill the streets. The music drifts up into the starry sky, as laughter reverberates everywhere. Ultimately, everyday in San Miguel boasts a new and unique cultural experience. Each day the music, people and food varies.

San Miguel de Allende is a must-see travel destination. In this diversified city that never sleeps, there is always something to do. Whether it be soaking in a hot springs, or visiting the market, San Miguel is regularly interesting. The food is delicious and the attractions plentiful. But most importantly, San Miguel is a unique and beautiful city, with truly a vibrant Mexican culture.
